Top Scouting Award To New Zealander
The National President of Scouting New Zealand, Francis Small, has received the world scouting movement's only award, the Bronze Wolf. It recognises outstanding services of the most exceptional character to the World Scout Movement.
The award, given by the Geneva-based World Scout Committee, was presented to Dr Small by the King of Sweden at a function in Sydney last weekend. The King of Sweden is the head of the World Scout Foundation.
Only 278 Bronze Wolf's have been awarded, four of which have gone to New Zealanders.
Dr Small, who is also Vice-Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee and Managing Director of Tranz Rail, has been involved in scouting for more than 30 years.
The award in particular recognised his "most significant contribution" to strategic planning for the Asia-Pacific region.
