Pot Pipe Law Change Today
A law change banning the sale of cannabis pipes and bongs comes into force today, despite the Health Minister’s earlier opposition to the scheme.
The new legislation makes all cannabis related paraphernalia illegal and introduces penalties of fines of up to a $1000.00 for shops selling the items.
Health Minister Annette King says the Government has no plans to repeal the law change, even though she opposed the proposed legislation while in opposition. Ms. King says the issue will be revisited later this year as part of a Select Committee review into the existing cannabis legislation.
Meanwhile, one of the owners of a shop who sold the bongs, says the law is badly written and won’t end up stopping the sale of the items, which can be passed off as other goods.
