People's Bank Has To Be Done Right - PM
Prime Minister Helen Clark says the Government will not be hurried into making a decision on whether the People’s Bank will go ahead, despite pressure from Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton to get working on the flagship Alliance policy.
“I feel a pressure to get it right, not hurry it through,” said Miss Clark in her post-cabinet press conference this afternoon. “The proposal has to stand or fall on its merits … We have to come along with our taxpayers hat on and decide, ‘is this a good use of our money?’”
She said it may be possible for cabinet to
discuss the People’s Bank proposal from NZ Post next week,
but says a 2-3 week timeframe is
likely.
