Photo Essay By Geoff Beynon

In excess of 30,000 people gathered on Sunday morning December 23rd to say farewell to Sir Peter Blake in a Memorial Service held in the Auckland Domain.

Addresses to the crowd included speeches from shipmates, Sarah amd James Blake (above), Prime Minister Helen Clark and the Brazilian Ambassador (far left in the picture above), who finished a moving speech saying that no country wants to be remembered for such a brutal act.

Performers included Dave Dobbyn, Brent Eccles and Tim and Neil Finn who finished the service with a performance of Six Months In A Leaky Boat.
