Stateside With Rosalea: Snapshots
1. Something familiar at Linda Mar shopping centre, Pacifica CA.
2. Looking south down Highway
1, which will take you to Montara where there is an AYH
hostel in a lighthouse. Denny's is a family restaurant chain
currently running a promotion called "Re-ignite the Dream"
to raise a million dollars for a civil rights museum. Lest
we forget that as late as the 1960s US citizens had to fight
their own government for the right to sit at the same lunch
counter as their friends, let alone vote.
3. Faux lux. The Best Western
motel at Rockaway Beach. Photo taken from beside restored
wetlands in a disused quarry, looking south towards the
little islands at the end of both Rockaway and Pacifica
State Beach.
4. Lucky snapshot. As the bus
entered the ticky-tacky boxland of the northern end of
Pacifica I glanced back and got this shot of the late
afternoon sun on the vast Pacific Ocean.
