Today New Zealand's most famous refugee made a whistlestop tour of the nation's capital. Ostensibly Mr Zaoui's purpose for being in Wellington was to deliver a lecture on Islam at Victoria University.
However due to some rather ill-considered comments from fellow Muslim MP Ashraf Choudry earlier this week, Mr Zaoui was besieged by a phalanx of media types seeking his response to the same issue - namely the stoning of homosexuals.
Mr Zaoui showed Mr Choudry how to answer a tricky question, pointing out to the media that he personally did not agree with stoning people.
Mr Zaoui also diplomatically sidestepped all questions about what he thought of Prime Minister Helen Clark before finding an hour to sign a few excellently written books about his plight at Unity Book Store.
