Report: Amnesty U-Turns Over Yadegary States It Unsafe
To Return Him To Iran
Scoop's Selwyn Manning writes that Amnesty International has conducted a U-Turn on the Thomas Yadegary asylum-seeker case after discovering new information suggesting that if New Zealand deports him it will be in breach of its international human rights obligations. Also, both the U.S. State Dept and the UN General assembly cite concerns about Iran. See... Scoop Report: Amnesty Does U-Turn On Yadegary Case [1]

Climate
Change: Carbon Issues Dominate PM's Presser
This

questions on sustainability and other ecologically
associated issues. The question and answer part of the post
cabinet tete-a-tete between the PM and the media appeared to
exist in an alternate universe – one where the words Taito
Philip Field, Thai Tiler and 'Auditor-General's election
spending report' did not exist. See...

Legislation:
Bill Banning Retail Fireworks Sales In The Ballot
- A bill seeking to ban the retail sale of fireworks to individuals has been placed in the ballot for Members’ Bills by Wellington Central MP Marian Hobbs. “Earlier this year, people from the electorate approached me with concerns about the illegal lighting of fireworks throughout summer. This illegal and irresponsible use of fireworks has been a nuisance and caused distress to many people.” Marian Hobbs said. See... Fireworks Safety Bill [1]

Politics:
Maori Party Holds AGM
I want to pay tribute to my
colleagues in the house, it is a great team to work in. We
have huge regard for each other. I want to also pay tribute
to the amazing leadership of our President. When he comes to
our caucus, he brings us back to the point – where does
this fit with our kaupapa? We are governed and guided by
the kaupapa. See... Tariana

Ministers Talk Transformation And Research
You have
invited me to talk about New Zealand’s strategy for
climbing the O.E.C.D. economic ladder. Lifting New
Zealand’s relative economic and social performance over
time will succeed on the foundation of thousands of
successful individual business strategies to grow their own
trading profits and to raise their own investment levels in
new technologies, skills and training, market development
and research and development. See... Cullen:
