PETERS HINTS AT TAX SUPER TRADE OFF

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters hinted today that there might be a tax – superannuation trade-off in the upcoming Budget.

Speaking on TVOne’s “Agenda” the New Zealand First leader said there would be a greater savings drive and incentivisation in the budget.

“I'm pleased to say that at long last New Zealand is addressing a serious deficiency, a void in its economic planning for the first time,” he said.

Asked whether the budget could contain a link between tax cuts and Kiwisaver contributions, Mr Peters said that what was coming on superannuation in the budget was “a step in the right direction”.

And asked whether it was a step on the way to compulsory superannuation which he advocated when he was in the National coalition Government in 1997 he said: “I tell you it's not too far away from what we wanted in 1997 on the issue of a significant savings regime”

JOHN KEY KNOW HIS WAY TO THE TOILET

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters says he thinks it will be easier to talk the National Party after the next election now it is led by John Key.

Speaking on TVOne’s “Agenda” programme today Mr Peters said New Zealand First would be willing to talk to whichever party had the most votes after the next election.

But he praised Mr Key for having more commonsense than former National leader, Don Brash.

“Plus I think he might know where the parliamentary toilets are by the next election when the last guy didn’t, and wanted to be the Prime Minister.”
