Protesting APEC

The NSW Supreme Court granted Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione's application for an order to prevent Saturday's antiwar march moving from Town Hall down George Street, but qualified the decision with statements on people's right to free speech and assembly. Some reporters continue the media and police beat-up of 'violent protestors'. LINK

Protest Organiser invites Bonesman Bush to Sydney APEC Ghost Dance

APEC Ghost Dance organisers have invited the US President George Bush Jnr. to come shake his bones with them from 5pm on Friday evening 7 September, near the Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park North. "It was nice of George to apologize for the trouble his APEC security needs have caused the people of Sydney," said Ghost Dance organiser, Graeme Dunstan. "But if he really wants to establish a connection with the people of Sydney, the best place for him to do a meet and greet will be the Ghost Dance; there he will find Bonesmen kin." LINK

AC/DC condemns police action in court that led to march ban.

In court today police named the groups AC/DC, Mutiny, ArterialBlock and the Socialist Party and said that they would be at the Rallyon Saturday and that this was a reason to refuse permission forSaturdays planned protest route. LINK

Human Rights Observers to help at Stop Bush Coalition march on Saturday

Back in February 2003 police estimate 200,000 Sydney siders protested against George Bush and John Howard and their war in Iraq. Howard described them as 'a mob' and sounded quite rattled too. His home city rejected him. But in his vanity he wanted a war and he got one, with hundreds of thousands dead now. As the ALP ex PM Paul Keating pointed out on SBS Dateline last night "400 were killed just the other week", perhaps referring to a shocking headline in the News Ltd The Australian, hidden back in the World pages. The only surge really seems to be Iraqi blood when you weed through the military industrial schmoozing by Bush, Howard, rent a crowd reporters like Devine etc in the press today. LINK

The September 5 student strike against US President George Bush’s visit, initiated by Resistance, has triggered a wave of anti-war activism on high schools across Sydney. Students from more than 20 high schools, including Mosman High, Pennant Hills High and North Sydney Girls High, have pledged to walk out of classes to protest Australia’s involvement in the Iraq war, to call for genuine action against climate change and to defend the right to protest.
