Close to its centre, Hurricane Daman is estimated to have average winds of up to 175 kilometers per hour with momentary gusts of up to 250 kilometers per hour. The hurricane is now moving East at about 20 kilometers per hour but is expected to curve South East later.
Gale force winds are expected throughout Fiji.
Projections by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's ARLPLOT suggest the system may continue towards New Zealand in the next 36 hours.
