Conyers seeks to protect Vice President Cheney
This week the House will vote on a bill to amend US Code Title 18, Section 3056 (a) so that the Secret Service can extend its protection to former Vice Presidents.
H.R. 5938 was introduced by Rep. Conyers on behalf of himself and three other lawmakers on May 1. It was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, and the committee’s report was received back in the House on June 5. Conyers chairs that committee, and the three co-sponsors are also committee members, including the ranking member, Rep. Lamar Smith.
The Leader of the House, Steny Hoyer, has scheduled the bill for Monday, June 9.
