NZ Fashion on Screen

22 September 2010

NZ On Screen's 'September issue' — launched to honour 10 years of NZ Fashion Week — celebrates Kiwi fashion on screen. From TV showpieces (Benson & Hedges,Corbans,WOW)to docos on designers; from Gloss to archive gold; from Swannies to Split Enz; taniko and twenty-seven names to foot fetish ...

Former Miss Universe Lorraine Downes, a teenage Rachel Hunter, and future TV presenter Hilary Timmins all appear in the 1986 Benson and Hedges Fashion Design Awards, and WORLD makes a stand for Nuclear Free Fashion, Jesus and Elvis in Corbans Fashion Collections - 1995.

The collection includes background pieces surveying Kiwi style on the small screen. Te Papa senior curator (history) Claire Regnault, and Fashion Quarterly editor Fiona Hawtin give front row reports on NZ fashion on the telly.

In a ScreenTalk interview designer Liz Mitchell talks about making costumes for screen,
most memorably crafting the power dressing 80s styles — shoulder pads, stilettos and gel-spiked hair — in cult TV show Gloss.

Take a stroll down the catwalk of our sartorial screen past.

And in other news ...

If you're an Orcon@Home or Orcon@Work broadband customer you can watch all the videos you like on NZ On Screen for free - without blowing your cap.

The good folk at Orcon have added NZ On Screen to their 'O Zone', which means NZ On Screen traffic is unmetered. Cheers!
