PM's Presser 21/2/11: Take The BMW Out Of Thine Own Eye
Report by Lyndon Hood, photos by Anna Purcell
The Prime Minister opened today's post-cabinet press conference with an unusually long period of statement-reading, regarding unrest in Libya and Bahrain, the welfare working group report (to be released tomorrow) and a lengthy statement on the purchasing of BMWs for the ministerial fleet. Mr Key said that the discounted purchase price was similar to what the Government might expect to gain when they are re-sold, and that most maintenance costs are met by BMW.
Questioning also focused on the ministerial cars and how this matter was dealt with politically. Other topics included potential responses to the welfare report, the rationale for share sales in state-owned enterprises, the TPPA trade deal negotiations, employment law for sleepover workers, a recent international meeting of treasury secretaries, industrial action by teachers, and Winston Peters.
