Scoop News: The Prime Minister held a press conference today with Lieutenant General Jerry Mateparae, following the announcement that Mateparae – former chief defence force and recently-appointed head of the GCSB – will be the next Governor-General.
He will be sworn in on 31 August to begin a five year term.
PM John Key was asked what advice he sought on the constitutionality and possible conflicts with Mateparae's current GCSB role, and how the appointment came as a surprise to the head of the spy agency.
