Consider staying in town if you can
SH1 northbound is open but severely restricted in places. One lane of SH2 northbound is now open from Ngaraunga to the Dowse Interchange.
Commuters are still advised to put their safety first and delay their travel if possible.
Some limited bus services are being provided from Wellington Railway Station to Lower Hutt Queensgate for people that absolutely must get home tonight, but there will be severe congestion.
Those that can stay in town or delay their travel should do so. School students will be given priority on these services.
People able to provide transport to those that have to get home are encouraged to travel past the Wellington Railway Station to pick them up.
There will be no trains operating in the region until at least midday tomorrow so people are advised to talk to their employer and make appropriate arrangements for work.
The mezzanine floor at Wellington City Library and Loaves and Fishes Hall on Hill St are available for people to go for a hot drink and some shelter if necessary.
People should keep listening to the radio for updates and be aware that this situation may change with any incoming weather.
