PM's Press Conference 19/6/17: Pike And Houses
Prime Minister Bill English began this week’s press conference with a recap of his discussions with the Pacific Island Prime Ministers about developing a better trade coordination. English will travel to Auckland this Thursday and Friday before returning to Wellington for the National Party Conference.
There were questions on Pike River mine re-entry after new video from inside the drift was released over the weekend. English maintained a human effort would not be feasible irrespective of any future coalition demands from NZ First. He said the government would continue to work with families on non-manned re-entry.
Other topics included housing affordability, a plan for a pilot of a community sponsorship category for refugees above the Government's quota, how the healthcare pay equity settlement will affect other areas, and planned changes to tax returns. English was also asked the vehicle attacks in London and whether any precautions are going to be taken here. He was unconcerned and didn’t think precautions would be necessary.
