PETER ELLIS: Peter Ellis’s release from prison brings new heat to an old conspiracy. The man convicted of 13 charges of child abuse says the fight to clear his name and will not stop until he is declared innocent. The minister of Justice Phil Goff has advised Ellis’s lawyers that a commission of inquiry into the case.

ELLIS HISTORY: However many people are still not happy about his release 6 1/2 years in from a 13 year sentence. And while Peter Ellis’s supporters are celebrating the official inquiry into the case, a legal expert says the inquiry would not have the “legal grunt” to overturn any conviction made in court.

COCAINE KIWIS: A court has confirmed that two New Zealanders are leading players in Australia’s largest cocaine smuggling case. New Zealand police say one of the New Zealanders dubbed “Sir” Thomas Fry has a long criminal pedigree. 500 kilograms of cocaine was found on board a yacht near Sydney harbour.

FLU THREAT: Health Authorities are worried about the return of a nastier Sydney A Influenza strain which came in early winter last year. Immunizations are now available for this strain along with a South East Asian flu strain. They will be available by Feburary 16.

AMERICAONE WINS: AmericaOne sailed to a close 9 second win after Italian Team Prada suffered problems with a twisted spinnakker making it three all in the Louie Vuitton Cup.

GRAF ON WATER: Tennis star Steffi Graf was also on the water both as 17th man on the AmericaOne boat. The previous night she was asked questions about her new boyfriend world tennis champion Andre Agassi while at an exhibition match in Auckland.
