People Smuggling Ring Busted - Employment Relations - Snow In South - Moana Sinclair - Helicopter Crash Funerals - Diving Drowning Tragedy - Pope Apologises

PEOPLE SMUGGLING RING: Auckland police say they have cracked a syndicate trafficking in human beings. The syndicate operating out of Auckland was sophisticated. 26 homes were searched and 10 people are helping police with their inquiries. Refugees were being charged up to $30,000 to enter New Zealand. The group was linked to smuggling groups overseas and more busts are expected overseas.

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS: Government will unveil small print of its Employment Relations Bill tomorrow. Hastings meat-workers who are on strike hope the new law will help them. Progressive meat bosses say they have no choice. Under the new law employees will be able to decide whether to be members of unions. Unions will also have to live up to standards. Sympathy strikes will remain illegal. Employers will not be allowed to bring in alternative labour to break them. National says that if Unions start taking control JANE YOUNG LIVE: The Alliance, Labour and the Greens have the numbers to push this through. We will be hearing strong arguments from Jenny Shipley and Max Bradford though. This is a basic left/right issue. Polls since the election show the government growing more popular and that will be used as justification.

SNOW IN SOUTH: Snow on Coronet Peak. Concern over two climbers possibly lost in snow in Fiordland National Park. Air Force Orion is checking out a Radio Ham report of a party lost in the park. Road blocked in Dunedin during storm. Mosgiel factory flooded. Augie Auer says this is not the beginning of winter yet however.

HELICOPTER CRASH FUNERALS: Hangar at Hamilton Airport packed with mourners as friends and family meet to farewell "Chopper Dave" the pilot of the Helicopter that crashed last week near Raglan. Another funeral for a civilian police technician also killed in the accident.

DIVING DROWNING TRAGEDY: Police have abandoned a search for the body of a diver still missing following a drowning tragedy on Friday. They say searching is too dangerous. OSH is now investigating the safety of the accident.

POPE APOLOGISES: Pope John Paul has asked for the world's forgiveness for Catholics who committed sins in seven categories. Sins against women, native people, jews and human rights all receive a mention. No specific mention of the Holocaust or of homosexuals. Some Catholics have asked why they need apologise. The Pope has replied that the sins need to be apologised to remove resentments which can cause more conflict.
