TIMOR: Violence flared in Dili last night. Houses were torched shots fired and 300 civilians were forced to take shelter inside the UN compound. Indonesian police were late to respond to calls for help and the New Zealand government and the UN have warned Indonesia to keep the peace. The five Kiwi MPs have left the area and our 10 observers are leaving at 8pm tonight.

LOTTERY: All five appointed members of the Lottery Commission have strong links to the National Party and Chairman Geoff Thompson’s job there is on the line after agreeing to pay the Commission’s chief executive a $400,000 salary.

WEBSITE: The National Party are extraordinarily upset about a satirical National Party website that uses the National Party logo. The site is very popular however.

SHOOTING: A 12 year old boy was shot in the neck with a slug gun while cross country running with his school in a domain. He is OK. Police are talking with somebody about the incident.

MURDER CHARGE: A 40 year old man has been charged with the murder of a 32 year old Tauranga woman last month. During the investigation police also discovered a flourishing methamphetamine business in the town.

STANDOFF: A standoff between police and a man armed with a knofe was defused by a police dog around 5pm this evening in Auckland.

SKIER: A 32 year old ski instructor has been killed while skiing in the Remarkables.

ASTHMA: A new asthma trial drug which is injected once or twice a month is having incredible results. The drug – e-25 - will not be available for two more years.
