Progressives rejoice at Four Weeks Leave for all

Progressive MP Matt Robson says he is overjoyed after a huge Parliamentary majority of 32 votes in favour of the final, Third Reading, stage to extend a minimum of Four Weeks Annual Leave to all working people. A majority of parties support this change.

"It is an historic day for working New Zealanders.

"A very substantial majority of Parliament have shown they care about the practical issues confronting working families. A majority of parties have shown that they understand the pressures faced by working families as they balance their working and family commitments," Matt Robson said.

"The huge mandate means that no future Right Wing government led by Don Brash will be able to reverse this important new law," Matt Robson said.

Matt Robson's Four Weeks Leave Bill was introduced to Parliament last December.

The four weeks provision in his private member's Bill was incorporated into Labour Minister Margaret Wilson's Holidays Bill last month and the revamped law was enacted this afternoon by a vote of 76 to 44.
