Trade, higher education and aid on agenda as Governor-General visits Viet Nam on first-ever State Visit
The Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright will this week travel to Viet Nam on the first ever Official State Visit there.
Dame Silvia's visit co-incides with the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Viet Nam. Her programme includes top level meetings with President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and Communist Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.
The visit will also include meeting with VSA volunteers, the Fisher and Paykel showroom, members of the New Zealand business community in Viet Nam and several universities.
During her visit, Dame Silvia will emphasise New Zealand's support for Viet Nam's bid to join the WTO and Viet Nam's candidature for the United Nations Security Council in 2008/09. During the absence of the Governor-General from 23 November to 1 December 2005, the Chief Justice Dame Sian Elias will act as Administrator of Government.
