Statement from Jonathan Coleman MP

Statement from Jonathan Coleman MP

National Party MP Jonathan Coleman says he "has learned a lot from the storm in a teacup" that has erupted around his decision to light up a cigar in a designated smoking area at the recent U2 concert in Auckland.

"As a new MP, it's fair to say that this episode has taught me some valuable lessons about public life. In hindsight I think I would have made some different decisions."

Dr Coleman says he does not plan to lay charges.

"While there are two sides to this story I do regret this sideshow and I am now determined to put this matter behind me."
