Govt must learn Solid Energy lessons in Landcorp review
National must learn the lessons from Solid Energy’s final collapse this week and apply them to Landcorp, Labour’s Primary Industries spokesperson Damien O’Connor says.
“National ignored all the warning signs and alarm bells about Solid Energy until it was far too late. Now there are serious concerns being raised about LandCorp’s incredibly ambitious dairy farm conversion in the central North Island with the milk price collapsing.
“While there are obvious differences in the two cases, the parallels of a highly ambitious project getting into trouble due to a tumbling commodity price must raise the alert level.
“National was asleep at the wheel when it came to Solid Energy. They can’t be this time around.
“The Government and Landcorp must take an in-depth look into all the dairy conversions being undertaken, what steps can be taken, and what effect they will have on Landcorp’s books,” Damien O’Connor says.
