Masterton Factory Another Victim of NZ’s Excessive Globalism
The death of Masterton factory Sliderite can be laid at the door of successive NZ governments, says New Zealand First Deputy Leader Ron Mark
“National and Labour took to globalisation as if they were in a drunken stupor, ignoring their responsibilities to the people.
“They gave away everything, destroying the livelihoods of businesses and their workers and opening the gate to cheap imports, leaving nothing to negotiate with.
“It beggars belief that they also started putting our government contracts with foreign countries, where people work for little pay, like army clothing.
“New Zealand First believes government procurement must consider New Zealand companies first and foremost. Our long standing policy would make it compulsory for government departments, state-owned companies and local councils to give first preference to New Zealand firms over foreign competitors when contracts go to tender.
“Free trade agreements are fine but NZ governments doing the negotiating should be on the side of their citizens, and not making it easy for the foreign governments to sell their products here.”
