Neil Finn Supports Medicine Mondiale Fundraising Efforts
Neil Finn has agreed to become an Ambassador for Medicine Mondiale, New Zealand's first truly home grown international development organization.
Medicine Mondiale has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise $500,000 to provide essential lifesaving medicines and medical equipment for the doctors and hospitals of Nepal.
Founded by pharmaceutical scientist Ray Avery, who has a long and ongoing relationship with Nepal and Africa, Medicine Modiale is an independent development organisation dedicated to assisting developing countries establish locally managed sustainable healthcare services.
Neil Finn explained the reason for his commitment to Medicine Mondiale.
“I first became acquainted with Ray Avery's big heart and brilliant mind when we were both involved with the Fred Hollows Foundation .He was the man on the ground who brought the scientific expertise to the building of lens factories in Eritrea and Nepal .
Now with Medicine Mondiale Ray is finding innovative ways to provide affordable drugs and a broad range of modern medical technology to developing countries. This sounds like an excellent proposition to me.”
“I consider it a great compliment that Neil has agreed to be part of the Medicine Mondiale team and his support will give great kudos and credibility to our groundbreaking work ” said Ray Avery.
With the state of emergency and ongoing unrest in Nepal some hospitals have not received essential medical supplies for more than a year and many are struggling for survival, using cardboard boxes as paediatric incubators.
“Due to the ongoing conflict many international aid organizations have either withdrawn or scaled down their operations in Nepal.I am hoping that New Zealanders will get behind us to help the people of Nepal in their time of need” said Ray Avery.
Medicine Mondiale is driven by Ray Avery’s personal belief.
“Humanity is not about treating the sick and feeding the poor. It is about taking responsibility for changing a global society which accepts social inequity”
