Alliance Party media release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday 22 May 2008
The Alliance Party of New Zealand has welcomed an announcement by the Minster for Tertiary Education the Hon. Pete Hodgson that the tertiary education sector will receive $900 million additional funding of the next four years.
Alliance Party Tertiary Education Spokesperson Richard Mitchell says it is positive to see that the Government has realised that the tertiary education sector requires further funding and have included this in the budget.
"This additional funding will go some way towards easing the financial pressures that are placed on Tertiary Institutions but if the Government wants to achieve its goal of a knowledge society more funding is required."
Mr Mitchell says the Alliance supports a full-funded public tertiary education system and if elected will work with Tertiary Institutions and other sector stakeholders to ensure that the tertiary education sector has enough funding to achieve its full potential.
