Simons fossil fuel Bridges to Nowhere

Simons fossil fuel Bridges to Nowhere

Mr Bridges is woefully out of date and ill advised when it comes to what is dirtiest - coal or gas.

He suggested at the oil and gas conference this week that "Finding gas actually helped the environment because it displaced far dirtier coal".

This is an inaccurate and dangerous myth being peddled by those profiting from fossil fuels, much the same as the tobacco industry bred and spread myths like ‘cigarettes benefits health’.

Fracked gas -which is the new gas coming out of Taranaki- is as dirty as coal and even more so, according to experts at Cornell University in the US.

New Zealanders must not be coaxed into choosing between coal and gas because both are fossil fuels and both must be kept in the ground if we are to slow climate warming. And especially in New Zealand with our abundant choices of alternative and renewable energy.
