Exercising their hapu rangatiratanga at a hui held yesterday at Kaingahoa Marae, Te Rawhiti, Bay of Islands the Pewhairangi Coastal hapū of Ngāti Kuta, Patukeha, Ngāti Manu me ona hapu ririki, Te Uri o Raewera, Te Uri Ongaonga, Te Uri Karaka hapū issued the following statement.
1. The Pewhairangi Coastal hapū of Ngāti Kuta, Patukeha, Ngāti Manu, Te Uri o Raewera, Te Uri Ongaonga, Te Uri Karaka confirm their agreement (“Whakaaetanga”) to form an Alliance as a large natural grouping to progress their Treaty of Waitangi Claims with the Crown.
2. “The Alliance” unequivocally rejects that Tuhoronuku continues to hold the mandate to negotiate with the Crown on their behalf and we assert that the Crown must immediately withdraw the mandated authority from Tuhoronuku.
