Record entries in Corporate Pursuit
Record entries have resulted in 34 teams in the Harrex Group Corporate Pursuit cycling event which starts tomorrow night with grading trials.
In previous years a maximum of 32 teams could enter the event but organisers Cycling Southland have increased the field to allow for the extra interest, and the line up is a mixture of 22 returning local businesses and 12 new teams.
Entries are led by last year’s winning division one team which includes members Emma Gibb, Michelle Fox, Allan Gregory, Graeme Irvine, Dion Cameron and Karl Watson.
There are a large number of businesses who are returning after racing in previous years with some businesses, including the New Zealand Fire Brigade and Fonterra, who have entered more than one team.
Nineteen businesses entered are returning for at least their second attempt and there are a large number of businesses who have competed in all three previous editions of the event, including Division One Champion YMCA, Konica Minolta, Preston Russell Law and the HW Richardson Group.
New entries include the Southland Times, Invercargill Licensing Trust, SEC Engineering and South Port.
The event starts with a grading time trial tomorrow night and then finals are next Sunday.
The Corporate Pursuit involves teams of four riders in an Italian-style pursuit, with one rider dropping off after each lap. The team with the fastest time over the four laps is the winner.
