RESOLUTION CONDEMNING RAPE AS INSTRUMENT OF STATE POLICY

Per reftel request, PolOff October 5 met with Monica Ioakim,
Second Secretary with the Division of Multilateral Affairs,
Cypriot MFA. New to her portfolio and hesitant to respond
"on the record," Ioakim nonetheless committed to study our
request, confer with counterparts in fellow EU member-states,
and pass on her observations to Division Director Pantias
Eliades and the Cypriot UN PermRep in New York. Off the
record, she commented that the draft legislation was
"remarkable" and that it was "important to proceed."
