SUBJECT: 62ND UNGA GENERAL COMMITTEE - SECOND MEETING
1. At a meeting on October 19, the General Committee
recommended to the General Assembly the following action on
inscription and allocation of agenda items:
(a) Inclusion of an item "Question of the Comorian Island of
Mayotte" (A/BUR/62/1) - consideration deferred to the 63rd
General Assembly.
(b) Request for the inclusion of an additional item submitted
by the Secretary-General entitled "Financing of the United
Nations Mission in the Central African Republic and Chad"
(A/62/231) - allocated to the Fifth Committee.
(c) Request for the inclusion of an additional item submitted
by Kazakhstan entitled "Observer Status for the Conference on
Interaction and Confidence-building Measures in Asia"
(A/62/232) - allocated to the Sixth Committee.
(d) Request for the inclusion of an additional item submitted
by Saudia Arabia entitled "Observer status for the
Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf"
(A/62/233) - allocated to the Sixth Committee.
(e) Request for the inclusion of an additional item
submitted by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and
the Republic of Korea entitled "Peace, security and
reunification on the Korean peninsula" (A/62/234) - allocated
to the Plenary.
2. The Report of the Committee recommending the inscriptions
and allocations will be considered by the General Assembly
Plenary on Monday, October 23.
3. The items were introduced by their sponsors and except
for the item on "Peace, security and reunification on the
Korean peninsula" there was no discussion of the proposals.
The Korean peninsula item, submitted and introduced by DPRK
and the Republic of Korea, drew comments from Indonesia,
Benin, China and Malaysia, all of whom expressed support.
