Armed Militiaman Killed In Contact With Australian Patrol In East Timor

ARMED MILITIAMAN KILLED IN CONTACT WITH AUSTRALIAN PATROL IN EAST TIMOR
An armed East Timorese militiaman has been reported killed following a short contact with an Australian Army patrol today in the vicinity of Maliana near the East Timor border in the Australian Battalion sector.
It is believed that another militiaman may have been injured in the exchange of fire.
A Defence spokesperson said there were between three and five militiamen armed with single shot and automatic weapons and grenades in the group which was contacted by the Australian Battalion Platoon strength patrol at 3 p.m. East Timor time today.
There were no Australian casualties in the contact
