Army United, Rebellion Quelled, Says Commander But Tension High In Suva

The Military Commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama says there will be no more coups in Fiji.

Bainimarama told today's Daily Post: "The army has never been as united now, after the mutiny last week. We now know who are with us and who are not. Those who are not will have to go".

He stated that the primary target of the mutiny was to eliminate him. In another interview, Bainimarama told today's Fiji Times that the rebel soldiers "were not in for war they were here for murder". He further stated: "If I am killed today there will be someone else to replace me, and he will continue my work so it doesn't mean that if I am killed the army will fall apart.

Meanwhile tension is high in capital city Suva. There is heavy presence of soldiers. Many observers have stated that with the army purge on the dissidents, another uprising is likely soon.
