Regime Says It Wants To Remain In Power

The Qarase regime says it wants to stay in power until the next elections.

According to a Radio Fiji report this morning, an unnamed source from the Qarase cabinet stated that the President wants the regime to stay in power until the next elections. The source further stated that meeting with the President which the Qarase cabinet had on Monday was intended to discuss the potential outcomes of the Court of Appeal, and to figure out ways for the regime to stay in power until the next election.

The radio report also stated that the regime informed the President that it feared the reversal of policies it had put in place if a government was composed under the provisions of the 1997 Constitution. It further stated that the regime did not approve of a government of national unity.

The radio did not name the source of its information, but it is believed to be a senior civil servant.

Meanwhile regime Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has decided to fly out this weekend to Hawaii with his wife for a week to attend the Pacific Island Development Program's meeting.
