Constitution Commissioner admits lack of response
The regime's Constitutional Review Commissioner, Jo Singh has admitted that the representatives of a vast majority of the people of Fiji have not made their submissions to the CRC.
The work of the CRC has been stopped by the High Court after an application was filed by the Fiji Labour Party.
Speaking on last night's Close-up TV program, Singh accepted that a many people, including a majority of those who made their submissions to them, did not understand the 1997 Constitution. He also accepted that the vast majority of the submittees were older ethnic Fijian men, and that representatives of other ethnic and gender groups have remained away from the Commission.
Singh also said that his group is not bound by the submissions only to make the recommendations.
Meanwhile, Fiji First Movement's leader, Mick Beddoes stated that his group has circulated 40,000 copies of a booklet on the 1997 Constitution which has been very well received.
