Australia warns tourists to maintain security awareness
The Australian Government has warned its citizens travelling to Fiji to maintain a high level of personal security awareness and monitor developments that might affect their safety.
Media reports state that the Australian government says that the security situation in Fiji remained uncertain. It stated: "There is a possibility of renewed civil disorder or industrial action during or after the Court of Appeal hearing in Suva. There is also a possibility of renewed civil disorder as a result of legal proceedings against the Speight group and the soldiers involved in the attempted mutiny at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks".
Meanwhile the Australian government has put on hold all new AUSAID scholarship it granted students through Fiji's Public Service Commission. The PSC is renowned for discriminatory award of scholarships and training awards. New Zealand is also not providing any new scholarships.
