DEMANDS TO BE DELIVERED TO WORLD BANK AND INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND
Who: Mobilization for Global Justice
What: Press Conference
When: Tuesday, August 28, 2001 -- 10 A.M.
Where: National Press Building, Murrow Room (13th Floor)
The Mobilization for Global Justice - a broad coalition of social justice, environmental, labor, human rights and student groups and activists organizing massive demonstrations against the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) next month - will unveil four demands that, if implemented, would create a more just global economy that elevates human need over corporate greed .
Speakers will explain how the current policies of the World Bank and IMF - devised by the richest countries for the benefit of multinational corporations - are decimating communities, destroying ecosystems and increasing poverty at an alarming rate.
This event marks the one-month countdown to Global Justice Week, a series of demonstrations and educational events in Washington DC that are timed to coincide with the annual Fall Meetings of the World Bank and IMF.
