Investigation Into Death Underway
Major General Martyn Dunne, Commander of
Headquarters, Joint Forces New Zealand has convened a court
of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the
death of a New Zealand soldier in East Timor.
Private Dean Russell Johnston died yesterday as the result of an incident in the vicinity of Obrigado Barracks in Dili. He was attached to the National Command Element of the New Zealand contingent.
The UN Police in Dili conducted an initial scene examination and forensic tests.
The investigation team will leave for East Timor tomorrow and the investigation is expected to be completed by the end of August.
