The villagers of Beit Surik and Biddu ask for
International presence
[February, 24, 2004, Beit Surik, NW Jerusalem] – At 9:30 this morning, the head of the municipality of Biddu requested International and Media presence in Beit Surik area as bulldozers have been seen approaching the village. Ahead of the bulldozers, the Israeli Border Police has already maintained a strong presence in the area of Beit Surik, where the Wall of Apartheid is planned to be built.
The local authorities of Biddu and Beit Surik have called over mosques and asked for the villagers to go to their fields and protect their lands from destruction. The bulldozers are expected to start working around the Wall at any time, uprooting trees and destroying the villagers' livelihood.
Four days ago, hundreds of villagers from the region of Beit Surik demonstrated peacefully against the destruction of their community and were supported by Internationals and Israelis peace activists.
Today, the villagers of the Beit Surik
need your presence to alert the international community and
to stop the destruction of their land!
