Human Rights In = Howard Out
Human Rights In = Howard Out
Mary Dagmar Davies
What an elegant and visionary piece of legislation! My congratulations to Jon Stanhope and all those involved.
How historic, timely and exquisitely appropriate that, that right under John Howards nose, the Australian Capital Territory became the first place in this country to have a Bill of Rights.
Australians who have seen the education system dimished, health trashed and live in a state of increasing debt and desperation are well aware the Howard Government has trampled on their human rights.
If the states and NT have the courage to act like the ACT - it will be the end of the Howard. Because of their actions and policies the PM and his ministers cannot survive with Human Rights legislation in place. They no longer even understand the meaning of the term.
My thanks to Judge Terry Higgins, I was fortunate to see his Press Club address on television. My thanks to the Canberra Times for reporting on this landmark legislation which other media appears to have chosen to ignore. And especially fond thanks to GAT. Because that anonymous writer who gushes venom across the pages of Yoursay, when savaging the Human Rights Bill 2003 just happened to publish the link.

Thank you GAT you saved me a websearch and enabled me to download the bill and read it carefully for myself.
The ACT have come up with a fine and important piece of legislation. It provides a basis on which to base a more tolerant future, rebuild our democracy and restore this country's heart.
