General Strike and Demonstrations in Biddu and Beit Surik
Tomorrow (March 11, 2004) at 7:30 am the Israeli High Court will be hearing the case presented by the villages near Biddu and Beit Surik. On Sunday, February 29, the high court suspended all work on the Wall until the next hearing, which will be tomorrow. Mohammed Dahle, the lawyer representing the villages, expects the path to be modified, but for them to continue construction of the wall on Palestinian lands in violation of international law and at tremendous cost to the villages' livelihoods.
In Biddu there is a general strike tomorrow and all stores and schools will be closed; there will be demonstrations tomorrow morning in the area of Biddu and Beit Surik to coincide with the court decision.
Today, through a
loophole in the previous court decision, destruction of land
continued in the nearby village of Beit Duqqu. After being
presented with court documents, an officer in charge claimed
that work would halt as soon as the internationals and
Palestinians protesting there left. Ten minutes after they
left, the drilling resumed.
