Pakistani Australians celebrate Pakistan Independence Day anniversary
Sydney (Report by Tribune International, 14th of August, 2004):: Pakistanis in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and other major cities observed 57th Pakistan Independence Day of Pakistan.
In Canberra, Honourable High Commissioner of Pakistan Babar W. Malik conducted the flag hoisting in the morning on Saturday the 14th of August at the Pakistan High Office Canberra. The Consul General Sydney, Eijaz Ahmed also conducted the flag hoisting ceremony in Sydney at the Casula College, Casula NSW where many Pakistanis with their families gathered in the morning.
The function was arranged by Pakistan Association of Australia. The flag hoisting ceremony started with the recitation of Holy Quran. The children performed the national songs. The guest speakers highlighted the importance of the Independence Day of Pakistan.
The Consul General Eijaz Ahmed also read the message of the President General Pervaiz Musharraf.
The sweets and refreshment were served. The other community organizations are also arranging various Independence Day functions in coming week. Tonight Pakistan-Australia Association (Sydney) is also holding an Independence Day function tonight where a musical programme is being organized.
