Indonesia: ICRC president in Jakarta
Geneva (ICRC) –
The president of the International Committee of the Red
Cross (ICRC), Jakob Kellenberger, has arrived in Jakarta for
talks with the Indonesian authorities.
Mr Kellenberger will meet with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as well as with the Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
The discussions will focus on the ICRC's role and activities in Indonesia.
Mr Kellenberger will also meet with the Chairman and other representatives of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), the ICRC's main operational partner for its activities in Indonesia.
The ICRC president will take this opportunity to visit the province of Aceh, where the ICRC and its partners of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement have deployed important activities on behalf of the victims of the earthquake and tsunami.
