RU486 result a win for women
Greens Senator Kerry Nettle today welcomed the success of the private members bill which allows the Therapeutic Goods Administration to consider any application for approval of the drug RU486 instead of the Minister for Health.
"The passage of this bill is a victory for women, their rights and their health," Senator Nettle said.
"Women in particular will be pleased that the decision on the use of this drug is now in the hands of the medical experts and out of the realm of politics.
"The highest priority for pharmaceuticals in use in Australia must be the safety and efficacy of those pharmaceuticals and this principle has been upheld today," concluded Senator Nettle.
