Black GST Celebrates International Women's Day

Black GST Celebrates International Women's Day

The Black GST Campaign celebrates the 89th International Women's Day this year by declaring a tribute to Aboriginal Warrior Women who have dedicated their lives to sovereignty for their communities and for Aboriginal people as a whole.

"This year we honour all of the women who have gone before us who worked tirelessly to hold their families together. It is our Warrior Women that inspire our creative caring spirit and provide us with the strength to continue the work to support and develop our families. In particular we dedicate this International Women's Day to Aunty Edna Brown and Aunty Betty King of the Gunditjmara Tribe; two Aboriginal Women Warriors who have dedicated their lives to the struggle of their people" said Black GST Collective Member, Marji Thorpe today.

"We also want to recognise and honour our men. We recognise that the same patriarchal, colonialist forces that oppress women impact severely on our men. Aboriginal women need strong men to support them and their families. Unless we have strong families our communities break down, as is evident in many places across Black Australia."

"We call for the issues of Genocide, Sovereignty and Treaty to be addressed this year. We look forward to the Women's Business camp that will be held at the Stolenwealth Games Convergence where we will remember the Warrior Women who have gone before us, seek inspiration and guidance from our Aboriginal Warrior Women and share our women's wisdom with our young generations, who are the future of our people".
