For indigenous peoples across the globe the Commonwealth games marks a celebration of the continued colonisation of their lands and is synonymous with genocide and massive land loss.
“We here in Aotearoa/New Zealand recognise the links between the colonisation of this land and Australia” said spokesperson Jakob Otter. “We remind both governments that these games do not gloss over the indigenous reality of the commonwealth and the need for justice for the indigenous peoples of both lands.”
