Australia: Cowardly Brethren will be investigated
Cowardly Brethren will be investigated - Brown
The cowardly Exclusive Brethren men who ran anti-Green ads during the election campaign represent a shadowy and bigoted sect which harms families.
"They have opened
themselves to investigation," Greens Leader Bob
Brown
said today.
"Their disavowal of the Exclusive Brethren sect being the direct reason for their election campaign will fool no-one. Their 'Elect Vessel' and global leader in Sydney, Mr Bruce Hales, wants to excite no publicity, in particular about pre-election conversations with the Liberal Party. However, as with all political players in our democracy, the Brethren have invited intense scrutiny and they will get it," Senator Brown said.
"Not least their destruction of families. Not least the suicides of members," Senator Brown said.
Award winning New Zealand writer, Ngaire Thomas, has written an insight into the Exclusive Brethren, called Behind Closed Doors: An inside story into the Exclusive Brethren Church.
The Exclusive Brethren's electoral activities are currently under investigation by both the New Zealand police and the Australian Electoral Commission.
