NZ Facilitator For Fiji's Multi Party Ground Rules

Fiji Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase has sought assistance from his New Zealand counterpart, Helen Clark to facilitate discussions on the Fiji Multi Party ground rules.

In a press conference, Mr. Qarase said he is asking for one or more persons to coordinate the discussions between his party and the Fiji Labour Party, during his bilateral discussion with Ms Clark this afternoon.

He said “We are also asking for assistance for one or more persons to facilitate the discussions between the Fiji Labour Party and my Party when we begin to talk on finalization on ground rules for our Multi Party Cabinet and parliament.

Mr. Qarase also indicated that he has express the Fiji government's willingness to send to NZ a multi Party delegation to see how the New Zealand parliament go about their Collation Government.

With regards to RAMSI (Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands), Mr. Qarase said the discussions were similar to the discussion he had with Australia Prime Minister earlier in the day.

The Prime Minister is optmistic that talks in the main forum will have a satisfactory outcome for all.
