PM detects "changing mood" over climate change

International agreements on tackling carbon emissions paired with action from individuals can make a difference in the fight against global warming, Tony Blair has said.

In a live link-up with ITV News, who are broadcasting this week from Antarctica, the PM said he was "more optimisitic" about the problem than before.

There was a "changing mood" around the world, he felt.

Mr Blair told presenter Mark Austin:

"It is absolutely essential that we get an international agreement that binds in all the big countries that are emitting carbon - America, China, India."

But there were also "masses of practical sensible ways we can all make a difference" he added, revealing that the Government would be putting a carbon calculator online to help people measure their carbon footprint.

The forthcoming Climate Change Bill will also allow individuals and companies to take measures to reduce harmful emissions, the PM said.

Throughout the week, ITV News is travelling around Antarctica, measuring the melt and the retreat of the ice in one of the coldest, most remote places on earth.
