ADF Supporting Emergency Efforts At Yogyakarta

The ADF dispatched a C130 Hercules from Darwin to Yogyakarta at approximately 5.30pm AEDST today to support emergency efforts in Indonesia.

The aircraft is carrying ADF medical specialists and is configured for aero-medical evacuation of victims.

The C130H and its associated medical staff offer an in-flight intensive-care facility designed to stabilise patients until they receive further treatment in hospitals.

An Air Force Boeing Business Jet (Boeing 737) and Challenger VIP aircraft will depart from Canberra early tomorrow morning to provide transport for a DFAT-led Emergency Response Team.

The aircraft will also carry a small group of ADF personnel to provide supplementation to Consular staff as they assist their Indonesian counterparts in managing the incident.

The ADF can also confirm that two Royal Australian Air Force members were onboard Air Garuda flight GA-200 which crashed at Yogyakarta this morning.

Both members suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and have received medical treatment at the scene.

Their names will not be released for privacy reasons.

The RAAF has notified the members’ next of kin and is working closely with them at this difficult time.

Defence, in conjunction with DFAT, is conducting a thorough check to confirm the locations and status of its personnel who work in, or who may have been on leave, in Indonesia.

At this stage there is no information to suggest that further ADF personnel were involved in the incident.
